ATTENTION AND INVITATION TO ALL WEST VIRGINIA MUNICIPAL ATTORNEYS JOIN US IN FEBRUARY FOR AN INFORMATIVE AS WELL AS SOCIAL MEETING.

The first meeting of 2012, which will be held in conjunction with the West Virginia Municipal League’s Annual Meeting in Charleston (January 29th & 30th), will be an open meeting for all attorneys across the state who provide legal services to cities, towns and villages. This meeting will provide general information about the WV Municipal Attorney’s Association and its membership as well as to allow our current members to meet and network with other fellow municipal attorneys. We have sent notices out to fellow municipal attorneys and are asking that mayors and city managers involved with the WVML strongly encourage their legal representatives to attend.

The meeting will proceed in generally the same format as other meetings providing a brief business portion and proceeding to a general municipal case law and legislative update. Also, there may be a guest speaker(s) who will provide a presentation and discussion pertaining to areas of law of particular interest for the Municipal Practitioner. As the Association Membership has received CLE Credits for past meetings, this meeting will be no exception with CLE credit for dues paying members only of the association. The dues are payable at the first of each calendar year and members may bring their dues with them ($150.00 Class I & II cities; $75.00 Class III & IV cities). Dues can also be mailed to Treasurer Bill File, City of Beckley, who can be contacted at 304-256-1754. Following the meeting there will be an informal social time to be held at the Marriott Lounge or in conjunction with the League's Legislative Reception for the attorneys whose municipalities are WVML members attending the conference.

The WVML Agenda should note our meeting to be held on the second floor of the Charleston Marriott Towne Center which is scheduled from 1:00 p.m. to approximately 4:30 p.m. The WVML website has the information for registration and the agenda available at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. The conference room has not yet been designated, but will be posted the day of the meeting. The tentative agenda is as follows:

Introductions; Welcome; Business Meeting (review of officers - bylaws, dues structure, etc.) Legislative and case law update & municipal interest cases in pending litigation; Guest Speaker(s) – to be announced (if applicable); Open forum – As always, bring any information you wish to share concerning current issues/problems, etc., within your municipality.

We look forward to seeing both current and new members at the meeting. This meeting is meant to be more informal and to provide information on this worthwhile Association which is a wonderful tool for practicing municipal attorneys who assist local government in various capacities.
