Join an innovative team providing public service!  The City of Morgantown is seeking an experienced administrative professional to fill the Assistant City Manager position. Under the general supervision of the City Manager, the Assistant City Manager position is responsible for performing complex administrative and managerial work in assisting the City Manager in a variety of assignments related to the planning, direction, control and evaluation of City operations and programs.

Morgantown, West Virginia, with a population of 31,000, is a historic city on the Monongahela River and is the largest city in North Central West Virginia. The city offers a unique community with a vibrant mix of cultural, social and economic diversity. Morgantown is the home of West Virginia University, the largest institution of higher education in the state with an annual enrollment of more than 30,000 students. West Virginia University is the medical, cultural, and commercial hub of the region. Daytime population estimates are 70,000+ in Morgantown. The city is one day’s drive from six of the eight largest U.S. metropolitan areas – approximately 75 miles south of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. In 2018, it was named one of the top 10 most affordable places to live in the U.S. and 11th on the overall ranking of best cities for college basketball fans in the U.S.

The City is looking for a highly motivated and experience candidate. Someone who can resolve complex problems and establish and maintain effective relationships with staff, public officials, and other internal and external stakeholders. An accomplished professional who is skilled in the principles and practices of effective administration with attention to planning, organizing, and directing comprehensive administrative and management services. Candidates must be knowledgeable about governmental organizations and public administration theories, principles, and practices, including personnel management and budget administration. City operations are supported by 275+ FTE employees and a total budget of $35.3 million for FY 18-19.

Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree and five (5) years of progressively-responsible managerial, supervisory, and administrative experience. A Master’s degree in public administration, business administration or related field is preferred. The salary range for the position is $92,294-$103,435, DOQ plus an excellent benefit package.
