The City of Buckhannon is currently accepting application materials from qualified individuals interested in the position of Fire Chief.  Buckhannon is a progressive city located in northcentral West Virginia, with a population of nearly 6,000 residents, and is home to West Virginia Wesleyan College with a student enrollment of about 1,500.  The Department, including the Chief, consists of seven paid members and works in tandem with the 30 members of the Buckhannon Volunteer Fire Department and further collaborates with several other volunteer fire departments in Upshur County with a population of about 25,000 residents.  The position of Fire Chief is a combined administrative and operational one, i.e., the fire chief shall be active as a firefighter.  The Fire Department provides fire suppression and prevention, basic life support, hazardous materials’ management, and a variety of other rescue services.  Persons interested in applying for this position may read more about the qualifications for this position by visiting the City’s website at buckhannonwv.org. 

 

THE TOWN OF WHITE HALL is accepting Résumés for the position of full time Town Coordinator.

The Town Coordinator is responsible for the creation and supervision of town budgets, oversight of town employees (except the Police Department), implementation of council decisions, public relations, oversight of human resources tasks, and management of projects. A bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field is required.

State Auditor’s office has partnered with graduate accounting students at West Virginia University to help monitor the finances of small, local municipalities across the state.

State Auditor J.B. McCuskey hopes the program, which launched with 36 students as a pilot program earlier this fall, will help small, cash-strapped governments meet state financial requirements cheaper and easier.

“The state doesn’t have any more money, the cities don’t have enough money and we don’t have enough people — nor can we hire any more people, because we don’t have enough money,” McCuskey said. “So what’s the solution, right? We tried to find a way to get these audits done that didn’t cost any more money, and our best solution was to go to the universities for help.”
