The 2010 Census – A Great Way to Earn Extra Money

The U.S. Census Bureau is recruiting temporary part-time census takers for the 2010 Census. The pay is good, the hours are flexible, and the work is close to home.

Census taker jobs are excellent for retirees, college students, persons who want to work part-time, persons who are between jobs, or just about anyone who wants to earn extra money while performing an important service for their community.

Mileage rate cut 6 cents for state workers

Most state workers will receive 6.1 cents less for each mile they drive their personal vehicles on state business. The reimbursement rate will drop from 50.5 cents per mile to 44.4 cents on Jan. 20, said state Department of Administration spokeswoman Diane Holley. The state reviews the rate every January and July. State cabinet secretaries, bureau chiefs and agency travel coordinators were notified of the change Monday. On Jan. 1, the Internal Revenue Service reduced the deductible rate for business miles from 58.5 cents to 55 cents per mile. State and local government agencies aren't legally bound to use the IRS rate but many do so. The state's current rate went into effect July 1. The previous rate, 44.5 cents, had been in effect since 2006.
