The City of Weirton is accepting applications for the position of Planning and Development Director. This professional position is primarily responsible for the daily and long range planning functions to further community and economic development, as well as design, initiatives. Duties include administering the comprehensive plan and zoning ordinances, site plan and use review, and enforcement of the subdivision regulations and zoning ordinances. Position answers directly to the City Manager; however, professional judgement may be exercised and technical decisions made as advisory to the City Manager. 

Qualifications for this position include: experience as a private consultant; BA degree in Planning, Public Administration, or related field from an accredited college or university; Master’s degree in Planning is preferred; Certification through the American Institute of Certified Planners; good knowledge of grant programs; administration of CDBG and TIF funds, and other federal grants; skill in preparing charts and maps, and in interpreting statistical data.  

Applicant must possess and maintain valid West Virginia driver’s license, be a resident of the City of Weirton, or be willing to relocate to the City within 60 days and maintain residency, and must pass physical examination, including drug and alcohol screening.

The position’s salary range is $47,872.85-$58,329.60 (less 10% during probationary period).
