The West Virginia Ethics Commission has issued an advisory opinion (A.O. 2016-04) that overturns   earlier Advisory Opinions (AO 2006-05, AO 2012-04) and confirms that West Virginia law allows a City Council to employ its Mayor as a full-time or part-time City employee.   

The Police Civil Service Commission of the City of Bluefield, West Virginia, will be conducting entry level tests for probationary police officers in the Bluefield, West Virginia Police Department.  Applicants must be between 18 and 35 years of age, must be or become a resident of Mercer County, have a high school diploma or GED, and have or get a valid West Virginia Drivers License.  You may apply at the City of Bluefield, Municipal Complex, 200 Rogers Street, Bluefield, WV until Wednesday, February 17, 2016 at 4:30 p.m. EOE

The Election Training Seminar conducted by the WV Municipal Clerks Recorders Association, schedule for January 19, 2016 from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., Charleston Marriott Hotel, has been cancelled. 

Any registration fees paid will be returned/reimbursed. 

If you are conducting your first municipal election this year please contact the WV Secretary of State’s office 304-558-6000 to seek guidance or you may contact the WV Municipal League @ 1-800-344-7702 and we will attempt to match you with a Clerk or Recorder who could serve as a mentor to you during your election.

The City of Weirton is accepting applications for the position of Planning and Development Director. This professional position is primarily responsible for the daily and long range planning functions to further community and economic development, as well as design, initiatives.
